W-ELCA

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (or W-ELCA) mobilizes women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.

We are a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. As a group, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, and support one another in our callings. Together, we engage in ministry to promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

To that end, we organize monthly donation drives for organizations that work to meet local needs. We collect clothing for women’s and children’s shelters, personal hygiene items for homeless youth, and food for food banks. Usually, we focus on ministries that serve women and children. Our Missions Board is responsible for choosing our monthly collections, getting the word out, and delivering the donations.

To raise money for our benevolence fund, we throw fun and exciting events throughout the year, like our Annual Bunco event in June and a Fall Festival and Family Fun Day in October. The money we raise supports local organizations, like the Mustard Seed School and Courageous Connection. We also run the kitchen for many church events, including a Passover Lamb Dinner, Lenten soup suppers, and a Thanksgiving Eve service with a pie social.  We enjoy feeding our church family.

W-ELCA creates a community among the women of St. Luke’s congregation. Through bridal showers, baby showers, birthday cards, and real friendships, we provide a support system for women of all ages. We care about each other, and we meet regularly to discuss our ministry, enjoy the holidays, and spend time together.

We support the congregation during sad times, too. Through our Comfort Committee, we organize meals for funeral receptions at St. Luke’s. W-ELCA also contributes to the church member memorial funds.

We love working together to minister to those around us, using our hands to do God’s work.
